There’s nothing quite like just getting away from it all and enjoying yourself. Whether you adore sunning yourself on golden sands or exploring faraway lands, there are many ways to have a much-needed break.

If you’re in the midst of planning a break right now, it’s fair to say that you may be feeling a little stressed. The problem with holidays is that, while they’re meant to be relaxing, they can be stressful to plan. Here are just six little hacks that will mean you have a totally stress-free getaway and get the rest that you need right now. Enjoy!

1. Learn the art of packing

Despite what you may have heard before now, packing is a fine art. These days, airlines are super strict when it comes to how much luggage you can take. That means that you often need to cram a lot of stuff into a very small case. While most of us know that rolling your clothes, rather than folding them, allows you more room, there are other ways to save space. You could also stuff your shoes with smaller garments so that no room is wasted! Getting vacuum bags for your items has to be the easiest way to pack a whole load of clothes into just about any suitcase you may have.

2. Research your destination

There’s nothing worse than ‘winging it’ when you reach your destination. While you may not want to plan every single minute of your holiday, having an idea of what you want to do is a smart move. Doing a little online research ahead of time will mean that you’re on top of things. If you have a Google Maps app on your phone, it will be a huge help. Look up any tourist points, destinations, or eateries you want to visit using the app and save them as a ‘favourite’. When you’re on holiday, you just have to tap your ‘favourites’ list and you will have directions to the places you want to see.

3. Weigh your luggage at home

Airlines can be seriously strict when it comes to your weight allowances. If you’re only taking hand luggage, you will likely have a tight limit on your bag. Should you go over this, you could find you have a hefty fee to pay. That means that you need to be really exact when it comes to how heavy your case is. Weigh your bag at home before you leave. That way, there will be no unpleasant little surprises at the airport so you can start your holiday in a good mood.

4. Be smart about your currency exchange

Currency exchange may sound like a dull topic, but you need to pay attention to it if you want it to pay off. There are, of course, a whole range of places where you can change your money. Choosing where to go, though, is not a decision you need to take lightly. Before you do anything at all, you should check what exchange rate each place is offering. (You can often check these online in mere minutes with a little help from Google!) After you’ve done so, you should be able to get the best rate and the most money in no time.

5. Unwind the night before you leave

Whether you’re a nervous flyer or just stressed about things going to plan, the night before your trip can be hard. For many of us, this is the time when we lie awake and think of everything that may go wrong when we set off. That’s not what you need to do at all and it may hinder your trip! Instead, you should take this time to relax and unwind. Get all your packing done during the day so that you can dedicate the evening to chilling out. Run a bath, light a few gorgeously scented Heart & Home candles, and just let all your worries melt away. Ahh… bliss.

6. Pre-book your airport taxi

No one wants to rush to the airport at the very last minute. If you want to take the sting out of this task, you should pre-book an airport taxi. That way, you know that someone will be there to pick you up and take you to the airport on time. It’s well worth looking at the services available in your area.

Finally, once you’ve done all of the above, there’s nothing left to do but sit back and relax. Here at Heart & Home, we’d like to wish you a very happy and relaxing holiday. Enjoy!
