When was the last time you really had some ‘me’ time? If you simply cannot remember, you’re in luck. Thursday 10th August is a special day; National Lazy Day. Yes, you finally have an excuse to take some time to yourself and just do nothing for the day. Here are a few ideas that may just inspire you

1. Try a little meditation

If you’ve yet to jump aboard the meditation train, perhaps you should. This is so much more than merely sitting around, staring at plain, white walls. It’s actually a way that you can unwind and get rid of the effects of stress.

In fact, according to new research from Coventry University, meditating can help with molecular reactions in our DNA relating to stress. That means that it can physiologically ward off things like depression and poor health.

You don’t have to dive in right away. You can start small. Light some Heart & Home candles in a cosy space, and just take the time to unwind in that area for ten minutes. There are many apps, such as Headspace, which should help you get started.

2. Switch off your gadgets

Whether you’re looking at your laptop screen at work or checking Facebook on your phone, you likely spend a whole load of time playing around with gadgets. While ‘smart’ things are very much a part of modern life, sometimes, it may be worth taking a break.

Just switching off or even leaving your phone in another room for a few hours can make the world of difference. It also helps with a good night’s sleep if you avoid social media surfing just before you’re about to nod off in bed… and it always helps to get a good eight hours’ of zzzzz!

Sometimes, when you’re watching a show that you just adore, you don’t want to stop. Usually, we don’t have the time to sit around and watch an entire series over the course of a day or evening. However, just for once, why not indulge your lazy side and allow yourself the time to really get absorbed in a show? Go on… You deserve it.

4. Get started on your reading list

In the same respect, there are likely a whole load of books on your shelves that you’ve always ‘meant to read’. Are you ever going to get around to reading them, though? There’s no time like the present. Why not pick up one of those books and really take the time to relax and read it for a change?

The key to taking the time to read is making sure that you have a space, which is completely ‘distraction free’. That means that you shouldn’t be sitting next to the TV or computer when you try to do it! Choose a relaxing place where you can unwind.

5. Take a napReading a book with Heart and Home Candles

While many people out there seem to think taking a nap is some kind of sin, it’s actually quite good for you. If you tend to have trouble sleeping, taking a small nap in the day might be the way forward. Research from the Endocrine Society recently found that ‘power naps’ can help reverse the effects of a poor night’s sleep.

Before you take a nap, there are some things that you should know. Sleeping for too long will make you more sleepy and groggy. The ideal nap time is between 10 and 30 minutes. Set an alarm so that you don’t end up feeling worse than before.

6. Order a takeaway

There’s nothing quite like sitting down to eat a delicious home-cooked meal. Still, making the food is sometimes a huge effort, especially if you’ve had a long day at work. Rather than stressing yourself out with yet more chores, why not treat yourself?

Sit back, relax, and order yourself a takeaway instead! These days, there are loads of delivery services out there, which means that you can even get food from a local restaurant (rather than just a fast food place!). It might feel a little naughty, but sometimes, you really do deserve it.

Finally, unwind in a relaxing bath. Take the time to make this into something of a ritual. Rather than just filling up the tub and jumping in, create a comfortable space where you can really chill out. You may wish to start by popping some gorgeously scented Heart & Home candles around the bathroom. The warm candlelight will only add to the effect here!

Next, be sure to add some bubbles or even a bath bomb to the water. It’s these little things that make all the difference when it comes to your bath. Once you’ve got everything ready, all you need to do is enjoy the experience!
